Little local hole in the wall restaurant/bar. Staff is very friendly but a little slow. Shrimp bisque was good. Burger was cooked to temp and the fries were frozen crinkle fries. Steak with baked potato looked real good. Probably should have gone with that. I will be back to try other items.

I have been visiting Main Street in old EC for over a decade but have never ventured under the bridge (besides parking). What an incredible find this place is! Warm cozy quiet place with welcoming staff to greet you at the door. Menu is loaded with something even for the pickiest of eaters! Portions are HUGE! Well worth every penny!! Bar menu is the most affordable prices in Old EC! Which is great because every hour feels like HH with $2-3 bottle and draft beer! We had a party of four at 530 on Saturday and were seated immediately. We started with shrimp toast app that contained a significant number of jumbo shrimp. As a table we ordered a greek dinner salad, cheese steak, #8 (sandwich), and a cheeseburger. Everything was delicious and no one could finish their meal each one was that large. We all splint homemade coconut bread pudding which was to die for!!! They had a special for a half carafe of wine for $9!!!! You HAVE to check this place out and bring your appetite!!!

The Trolley Stop is on my short list of favorite restaurants. I have eaten there numerous times for lunch. I like the unpretentious, rustic nature of the place. I always get the Trolley Chicken #3 because it is so delicious.

Maybe their lunch/dinner menu is solid... But my boyfriend and I had the worst breakfast ever. My pancakes tasted like bisquick and were undercooked (and expensive @ $9 with no sides). My bf's omelet looked thrown together. We will not go back

The Trolley Stop is a great place to have lunch. The food is always good and dependable and it has all the charm of old-time Main Street. Before the smoking ban, I loved the food but couldn't stand to go there and sit in a literal cloud of smoke. I've been enjoying it since the ban. Great little spot! Oh, and if there is no parking right in front, drive past it by turning left just before the trolley stop and then right just past it. There's a little lot there.

Really enjoy the trolley stop. Great French fries! I work up the street and we order carry out a lot...a certain bartender can be unpleasant and difficult to deal with when making these carryout orders. Other than that the food is good and the beer is cold.

Revising my review because I took my mother here on her birthday(Christmas Eve) And the staff was so rude to us and everyone that walked in after. I called the night before and was told they would be open until 3. When we showed up at 1 we were greeted with,"Kitchen is closing in 45 minutes!!" We said that was fine, I mean its lunch not a 5 course meal. We were made to feel uncomfortable and so was everyone after us. The waitress was loudly complaining about needing to shop still. Last I checked Christmas comes the same time every year. It's not our problem you didn't finish shopping on time. Bottom line is, don't open the door if you don't want customers. I won't stop going but I won't push this place as a friendly local spot either. The food is yummy for a diner but the service sucks unless you're a biker and personally know the staff. This is a great little local spot that is perfect for when you're craving homestyle comfort food. HUGE portions. My husband and I recently discovered that they have delicious crab cakes so sometimes we will order the platter for carry-out and split it. The cheese steaks are monstrous and so good. Breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday and that was our first love here.

Horrible for the money! I use Yelp a lot because of my job, always in new areas. They advertise an egg sandwich with bacon for like $5.25, went there to get Carryout and it was $9 just for an egg and bacon sandwich!!!!! I replied "nine dollars for a breakfast sandwich!" The lady behind the counter says, "Well it has a half a pound of bacon on it!" Umm okay and... Too expensive and not worth it, for $9 that better be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had.

Found a long piece of hair entangled inside my french dip sandwich. They still made me pay for it.

Tried this place for the first time. It is definitely an old building but has some charm. I couldn't decide if it was more of a bar or a restaurant but it was lunchtime so it did not matter. They were decently busy but the service was good. Decent sized menu and they had a few lunch specials. I got the Turkey Powerhouse and it was very good. They did not skimp on the meat or cheese and the alfalfa and salsa was a nice touch; something I could make at home though. The crab dip appetizer and toast was tasty. My toddler was tickled about the tube of mini m&m's the waitress gave him. We will keep it on our list for a place to grab a quick lunch.

Very cute location and I love the surrounding area...but I wasn't too impressed with the place. Very dim lighting when you walk in. I got a cup of french onion soup and a friend and I split a shrimp, white pizza. Both were very good but I ended up spending over $15 and wasn't even near being full...and that ain't cool! However, I did like all of the vintage music photo's on the walls. Great touch!

The Trolley Stop used to be an infamous biker bar called, no lie, "The Bloody Bucket." Thankfully, they've mopped the floors since then and added an amazing shrimp salad sandwich. At first glance the ground floor seating seems a bit too much like a bar if you've got kids, but there is a second story with a more "formal" dining space. The interior is rustic and cool, a great place to just knock some back and listen to ridiculous Maryland accents. There's a gorgeous stretch of park along the river on the other side of the street. Good times.

This place is like the epitome of a neighborhood dive bar, complete with the obligatory jaded waitresses and longtime barflies. We came in during a Ravens game, in which they were losing BADLY. However, we got the mom and pop treatment and the server even got on my picky son's good side by changing out his medium rare burger for one well-done. She even bought him a whole new plate of crispy french fries, which were scrumptious. He said it was one of the best burgers he'd ever had. I'd definitely go back. I liked the photos of Old Ellicott City on the walls and the wooden tables scattered throughout it's enclosed brick walls. The Trolley Stop makes you feel like you're at home, despite being a first-timer. And the food was really good!

Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning and could have made a much better egg sandwich in a quarter of the time. With the exception of supporting local business you are better off going to bob Evans.

Went back on 12/14 for my son's birthday. This time I got the ham an roast beef. The beef was grainy textured and kind of chewy, and basically flavorless. The dressing was good, but there wasn't enough, and I think I added a crazy amount of salt to the beef, it was so bland. Cucumber salad was good. Service was good, as it usually is.

Just moved here from Northern VA. Thought we would do the historic area and have breakfast one morning. Yuck!! Weak coffee, a slab of Texas Toast for my French Toast (where was the egg mixture---maybe they forgot it)? Ummm wow do people really drink at the bar at 9am. Not impressed!

Slightly higher prices than what you would expect at a place like this but with it you get: Huge servings, fresh ingredients, recipes that use lots of cheese and butter and a ton of character and history. 4 stars!

We've only been here for weekend breakfasts, so this review doesn't speak to their lunch or dinner options. First off, this building is awesome. So nice to see an older building that hasn't been torn down. It's usually pretty crowded at breakfast/brunch time, but we haven't had to wait longer than 10 minutes or so for a table. The food is pretty standard diner-ish fare, with lots of egg dishes, pancakes, etc. I've tried a couple of their omelettes, which were good. The SO likes the traditional eggs/bacon/potatoes meal. Service has been fine. Great location, since you can stroll around historic EC while digesting your large breakfast!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Parking can be tight, a few spots out front. When you walk in the bar is the first thing you see. The dining room is very dark and the dark wood doesn't help. The server was fine but a little sassy. The menu is an assortment of bar food, pasta, and diner meals. I ordered the open faced hot roast beef and mashed potatoes. The food came out fast and was huge! I enjoyed the dish but masjed potatoes were so so. Overall decent place but could use updating some.

The Trolley Stop used to be a regular haunt, but alas no longer. It used to be that the appeal was good food at pretty cheap prices. Now, the prices have gone up and the food hasn't improved proportionately. The building's pretty cool - an old tavern/general store, and then boarding house turned biker bar. It sits at the end of what used to be the #9 Trolley line out of Catonsville to Ellicott City, picking up from the #8 from Baltimore. It's a neat old flagstone structure with a first floor bar & dining room and an upstairs dedicated dining space with wood floors and stone walls. The staff is competent and affable, as a rule. The Trolley Stop is located on the border between Baltimore and Howard counties, in a deep valley formed by the Patapsco River and near what used to be the original Baltimore & Ohio rail line. The food has become merely adequate over the years, and the menu's fallen victim to our economic climes. Used to be you could get a pretty darned good strip steak for under $15, sides and salad included. Now, that strip's $19 and just above diner quality. This isn't the TS's fault, really, it's reality. However, when your appeal is that you've got a good feed for a bargain, when you take the bargain part away you're just another pub-grub slinger in a big pond. That being said, the burgers are still pretty darned tasty for $8, and the light fare menu isn't too bad overall. The bar's half quaint, half dive, and the beer's affordable. Maybe it's more that my tastes have changed, not that the Trolley Stop's doing anything wrong, but it sure doesn't seem the same. The atmosphere's pretty family-friendly, and it's got a local neighborhood seediness that's pleasant and homey. Like every restaurant and bar in Maryland, it's now smoke-free. So, feel free to seat the kiddies in the first floor dining room/bar without fear of turning their lungs into tarmac.

Been here a few times now, only because it is next door. Today was the last visit in this place and am finally giving it a review. It sucks. First time, we had breakfast, my eggs were not over-easy -- but raw, snotty and runny (not the good kind of runny!). A place that serves breakfast needs to know how to cook basic eggs. Next time was lunch, server seemed harried, frustrated, and extremely unfriendly. Had a rueben, mediocre. Have ordered take out twice. Both times, no sides were included or offered, despite saying so on the menu. No dipping sauces provided for chicken fingers, despite saying so on the menu. Hamburger tasted of freezer burn. This place may be a local dive, and is what gives it it's charm? -- but the prices are not reflective of that at all. $20+ for 2 plain sandwiches with no sides, or even a napkin? No thanks. Yet another restaurant in this downtown area that is total fail.

Local hang out for good burgers and the best Italian cold cut in town. The breakfast food is very good with prices that are reasonable. I recommend the Greek omelet. The coffee needs improvement.

This place was very "meh" as far as atmosphere, decor, and service. It's definitely a hole in the wall place, so I'll cut them some slack, but I wasn't impressed. The food was decent but nothing spectacular, and the service was rather slow and unenthusiastic. The place had a rather dull and uninviting feel to it and the decor looks like it's been there since the 1920s. Our food did arrive quickly which was nice, but we sat at our table with empty glasses about halfway through the meal and no one ever asked us if we'd like another round of drinks. (Yes I would like another beer, thank you). This is probably the 3rd restaurant I've been to in the past couple of weeks where the server didn't bother to ask me if I'd like another drink. To me that doesn't make sense, but I digress. The staff members were also sitting at a table right next to us eating their lunch while on the clock (perhaps on a break, but still) which seems unprofessional. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for years, I realize that you need to eat, but in front of customers? C'mon!

It's a old favorite for me and my wife, normally after church on Sunday morning. I'd suggest going earlier than later, it gets crowded after 10:00. Food is consistently really good. fries are wonderful as is the crab imperial, and the wraps, and the burgers, heck, it's all pretty tasty just go! The only knock is the coffee, really, really bad. BYOC!

Love this place! The building is super cool, with lots of history behind it. The food is petty typical bar food, but it's really good! I've gotten the Montana cheeseburger and fries and it was sooo good! There is limited parking but there is a lot right next to the building within a short walk. Go!

Loved this place..so glad that yelp recommended it! My friend was in visiting from out of town. I picked this place for the historic location with a quick walk to main street ellicott city. The atmosphere definitely gives that old town feel. We had the crab dip...the best I've tasted here. I would go back just for that and have been craving it since. We shared the shrimp salad sandwich...also delicious! Our waitress was very nice and friendly too. After lunch it was an easy walk down to main street with a beautiful walk along the way!

Started with the stuffed mushroom caps and then I had the chicken Chesapeake while my guy had the shrimp salad sandwich. Both were delicious and from a picky eater who grew up in Maryland the seafood was far above par. The crab imperial and crab stuffing had little to no filler in it and due to me having a gluten intolerance I was super happy about the imperial being a yummy mesh without a bunch of breading filler. Will defiant key come back as well as recommend it highly to others!

The Trolley Stop has a charming, old-fashioned ambiance and large portions at a reasonable price. I also like the location, which is right next to one of the last free parking areas in Ellicott City. The lunch menu is dominated by sandwiches and burgers, and includes classics along with a few more creative options. I found the food tasty (although definitely diner-style), and everyone's burger was nicely cooked to the temperature requested. I also appreciate the option to cut the grease with a variety of healthier, veggie-based sides, rather than just traditional fries included. The service was competent and prompt. Oddly, they tried to seat us directly in front of the door on a very cold day when the restaurant was nearly empty... but they seemed happy enough to accommodate my request to sit somewhere (anywhere) else.

We've been coming here a long time. We love that it's close by and inexpensive. The service is fine, but not stellar, and the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Every time I go, they try to seat me at the table directly in front of the door, which opens every five minutes with a huge blast of freezing (winter) or humid (summer) air. The other tables aren't bad, though the whole place has sort of a grimy feel (it's actually a lot better than it was in the days before the smoking ban. I could hardly stand to be there then!) The food is also good, but not stellar. Their burgers aren't bad for $10; I like the black and blue, but the bacon cheeseburger is also good. They come with a choice of fries, coleslaw and a few other things, but not salad (I know many diners have this policy, but I don't have to like it!) Their dinner salads, on the other hand, are gigantic and very fresh. The French Dip sandwich is quite good, as are their soups. They do great diner-style breakfasts, and we've been known to cancel out a long walk on the Trolley Trail by coming here for bacon and eggs midway through. Overall, it's a decent and fairly cheap place to have a meal; stick to the short-order basics and you'll be happy.

I drive about 15 miles, past lots of other places, to eat here for breakfast or dinner several times a week. The appetizers are great (though the potato skins could be a little crispier). Breakfasts are amazing. The omelets are big and yummy. Sides are big too, side of bacon is approximately 8-9 slices. And don't forget the grits! Lots of choices for dinner. Great burgers, one of the best cheesesteaks in the state of Maryland (and believe me, I've looked), and the crab imperial is scrumptious. Never tried dessert, always too full of good food when I get to that part of the meal. Service is attentive, checking on how things are, filling drinks, fixing the rare mistake. Only complaint is that the French fries are inconsistent. Usually they are crisp and fluffy, just the way I like t hem, but once in a while they are slightly undercooked and still a little hard. But that is a small complaint given the rest of the great food. P.S. don't go for a fancy atmosphere, but if you like simple tables, chairs and brick walls, then by all means, give it a try. Highly recommended.

It's a charming little place. A restaurant with a bar area that is usually frequented by regulars. My grandfather was once one of the regulars eons ago. I have always had great meals here. Prices are reasonable. Service is good. The burgers are flavorful and perfectly cooked. However, the french fries need room for improvement. They are basic frozen crinkle cut fries. They were not crispy enough and bland. I am also a fan of their hot roast beef sandwich with gravy

Def. would not go here again. We came for breakfast and my omlette was terrible, and they forgot one of our sides. There were flies bothering us. The orange juice was some sort of powdered concoction that came diluted with ice. The coffee was burnt and cold and gross! Maybe lunch is better.

My wife and I took the 3 grandchildren for lunch (1 yr, 3 yr and 5 yr).. The food was very mediocre if not poor. The service was OK, but to my surprise, when I got the check an 18% gratuity had been added. I don't think I'll be going back.

So my ex&his daughter raved about the food here&the snobby foodie in me was sooooo ready to be on that"yeah right"mode but truth be told I was pleasantly surprised. Yes it's got that old school feel&could use a updated but when it's all said&done I could eat on the side of the road@ a picnic bench if it's taste great! Now that the ambiance part is done I'm here to say that the food was really really good.....trust me I'm industry&have worked@&w/some amazingly talented chef's(I can go either way@times,comfort food is just that comforting, fancy stuff has it's upsides too)this place delivers really great comfort/home style good food.....I had the Steak&Cake(aka Surf&Turf)and it was perfect(sorry fancy MF's but it's true)steak was a perfect medium&crab cake was all lump lightly seasoned&NO breading....we had crab dip as an app(little salty but I'm not a native Marylander so old bay&I aren't BFF's. When it comes down to it I'd definitely go back back&thats what really counts. BTW the service was excellent&that should never be excluded from any review

Def. would not go here again. We came for breakfast and my omlette was terrible, and they forgot one of our sides. There were flies bothering us. The orange juice was some sort of powdered concoction that came diluted with ice. The coffee was burnt and cold and gross! Maybe lunch is better.

Good times.

Go!
